Mailchimp Statistics: Users, Email Benchmarks, AI, and Revenue

Mailchimp statistics covering users, email performance, AI adoption, ecommerce results, customer behavior, and reported financial figures.

Mailchimp statistics show a large email marketing platform serving millions of monthly active users, while its reported benchmarks highlight how results vary by industry, segmentation, and customer behavior. This guide brings together Mailchimp’s reported audience, product, ecommerce, AI, benchmark, consumer, and financial figures, with measurement periods and geography kept explicit where stated.

Platform scale and business figures

Intuit’s FY22 fact sheet reported 2.4 million monthly active Mailchimp users. The same fact sheet said Mailchimp drove $3.7 billion in small and midsize business sales in FY22. These are company-reported figures for that fiscal period, so they describe Mailchimp’s stated scale and contribution rather than an independently verified market estimate.

Mailchimp’s acquisition presentation from Intuit reported that the platform sends 10,000 emails every second. That figure communicates delivery scale, but it is not an open rate, click rate, or guarantee that every message reaches an inbox.

Intuit’s FY24 10-K recorded $762 million of revenue attributable to Mailchimp for the twelve months ended July 31, 2022. The filing also reported that Mailchimp revenue increased by $125 million in fiscal 2024, attributing the increase to higher effective prices and paid customer growth.

Intuit reported total purchase consideration of $12.0 billion for Mailchimp. The cash portion was $5.7 billion, while the stock portion was 10.1 million Intuit shares valued at approximately $6.3 billion. The purchase figures describe the transaction structure, not Mailchimp’s annual revenue or a current company valuation.

Email performance benchmarks

Mailchimp’s Email Marketing Benchmarks & Industry Statistics page reported an average open rate of 35.63% for all users, an average click rate of 2.62%, and an average unsubscribe rate of 0.22%. Mailchimp said it analyzed billions of delivered emails to calculate average open, click, soft-bounce, and hard-bounce rates by industry. It also said the benchmark page tracked only campaigns sent to at least 1,000 subscribers.

The industry figures below show why a single all-user average can be a weak comparison for a newsletter, community, or blog. They are Mailchimp benchmark averages, not performance targets for every list.

IndustryAverage open rateAverage click rateAverage unsubscribe rate
All users35.63%2.62%0.22%
Business + Finance31.35%2.78%0.15%
Non-Profits40.04%3.27%0.18%
Education + Training35.64%3.02%0.18%
Ecommerce29.81%1.74%0.19%

Non-Profits had the highest listed average open rate at 40.04% and the highest listed click rate at 3.27%. Ecommerce had the lowest listed open rate at 29.81% and click rate at 1.74%. Business + Finance had the lowest listed unsubscribe rate in this comparison at 0.15%.

Mailchimp said its campaign benchmarking data is based, on average, on hundreds of millions of emails sent in Mailchimp. The scale of the underlying email volume makes these useful reference points, but benchmark averages still combine many list sizes, audiences, campaign types, and sending practices.

Automation, AI, and marketing teams

Mailchimp reported more than 20 AI and data science features in the app in 2023. It also reported generating more than 8 million data-backed recommendations in 2022. Those figures describe product activity and recommendation volume, not the number of customers who adopted every feature.

The same Intuit Mailchimp Email Content Generator announcement said Intuit’s AI infrastructure powered 58 billion machine-learning predictions per day and handled 730 million AI-driven customer-help interactions per year. The Email Content Generator beta was available to select U.S. Mailchimp customers on Standard and Premium plans on April 10, 2023. The availability statement is specific to that beta, country, customer selection, and date.

The Revenue Blueprint reported that 61% of Revenue Leaders said email had a significant impact on organizational growth. It also found that 89% used automation to manage email, 49% used third-party integrations, 85% used analytical AI, and 86% used generative AI.

Customer data platform use varied by marketer group in The Revenue Blueprint: 39% of baseline marketers, 57% of performance-obsessed marketers, and 64% of Revenue Leaders used customer data platforms. Across total respondents, 74% used AI.

The Marketing Equalizer reported that 98% of respondents believed AI would improve marketing effectiveness, while only one-third reported using AI widely in their organizations. Lack of in-house expertise was a barrier for 39%, integration challenges were a barrier for 35%, and data privacy concerns were a barrier for 33%.

The same report said more than half of mid-market companies operated with 10 or fewer marketing staff, and the median number of marketing channels used was fewer than five. Expectations for team growth over the following 12 months differed by geography: 86% in Australia and New Zealand, 64% in the UK, and 71% in the US.

Wide AI deployment also differed by geography in that report: 44% in Australia and New Zealand, 28% in the UK, and 27% in the US. These percentages describe respondents’ reported conditions and expectations in the report’s measurement context, not a universal adoption rate for all marketers in those regions.

Ecommerce and holiday campaign results

In its February 10, 2026 release, Intuit said Mailchimp product innovations were available in 185 countries and territories. The release said its ecommerce enhancements could drive up to 30x ROI, while Mailchimp SMS ecommerce users saw up to 22x ROI after launching their first SMS campaign. “Up to” describes a maximum reported outcome, not an average result.

The same release reported that Mailchimp customers connected with Shopify saw up to a $41 return for every $1 spent with Mailchimp. It also said ecommerce customers reported an average of 16 hours saved per week after implementing Mailchimp, with another figure specifying an average of 16.4 hours saved per week across audience management, content creation, campaign setup, and reporting.

Mailchimp SMS marketing was available in 37 countries and territories globally, including 34 SMS markets in Europe. The release also said customers would receive 26% more ecommerce triggers. These availability and product statements are distinct from performance outcomes such as revenue or ROI.

Gruppo Terroni’s segmented campaign produced a 77% open rate, according to the same Intuit release. That is a named customer example, not a platform-wide average.

During Cyber Weekend 2024, Mailchimp customers alone sent more than 133 million emails in a single hour, according to Intuit’s holiday-season announcement. During the four weeks leading up to Giving Tuesday 2024, email campaigns for Mailchimp ecommerce customers with connected stores drove 20% more revenue year over year.

During Cyber Weekend, 64% of purchases made with Mailchimp-connected stores came from new customers. The number of Mailchimp customers using generative AI in BFCM campaigns increased by 345% between 2023 and 2024. The comparison is a change in the number of customers using the technology, not a 345% increase in revenue or email volume.

Emails sent using Mailchimp pre-built segments had an 85.53% higher open rate than non-segmented emails and a 54.43% higher click-through rate than non-segmented emails. These are comparative results reported by Intuit for the referenced holiday-season analysis; they should not be read as universal lifts for every segmented campaign.

Consumer trust and message preferences

The Brand Trust in the Age of Information Overload report found that 31% of consumers decide whether to read or click an email based on who it is from. Preview text and subject line each accounted for 18% in the report. Respondents said they would receive an average of six emails per week from a brand before unsubscribing.

Personalization was not uniformly welcomed or rejected. The report said 45% of consumers believed the future of personalization would mean they would not need to search for products and services. Targeted recommendations based on shopping in person were acceptable to 59%, while 57% were happy to receive recommendations based on search-engine behavior and another 57% based on website behavior.

Trust moved in both directions: 32% of consumers trusted brands less, while 20% trusted brands more. Among consumers who trusted brands less, 53% said transparency could help rebuild trust.

Consumers also differed in their comfort with AI-assisted communications. The report found that 38% were comfortable with human-made content supported by AI-led insights and information, and 30% were comfortable with AI-made content with extensive human input and oversight. At the same time, 48% wanted entirely human-made brand communications. That preference rose to 50% among consumers aged 55 to 64 and 53% among those aged 65 and older.

Practical email planning statistics

Mailchimp’s benchmark guidance recommends subject lines of no more than nine words and 60 characters. Its research also says subject lines should use no more than three punctuation marks and no more than one emoji. These are recommendations for message construction, not measured guarantees of higher engagement.

The consumer report found that 27% of full-time workers made purchases during office hours between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. The preferred online shopping window for 48% was 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Two in five consumers said they would likely look for a discount code before making a purchase, and 15% off was the average discount-code sweet spot.

When consumers rated purchasing factors, 44% selected connection and trust as important, 42% selected discounts and rewards, 38% selected free delivery, and 34% selected free returns. These figures suggest that email planning involves more than send volume: sender identity, transparency, offer design, timing, and the underlying customer experience all shape the response.

The QuickBooks 2024 Holiday Shopping Report, cited by Mailchimp, said 73% of consumers planned to have most of their shopping completed before December 2024. For publishers, bloggers, and online communities promoting seasonal offers, that reported timing makes early planning relevant, while the benchmark figures show why audience relevance and segmentation should be evaluated alongside open and click rates.
